smithARCHITECTS (sA) began working with the Prescott Hotel Group (PHG) in 2007 to begin design work for this 36,000 s.f., four story mixed-use complex. The site is located on a very prominent corner in the historic district in downtown Prescott. The building is comprised of an underground parking garage, three street level retail suites, and twelve condominium units. This site is located within Courthouse Plaza Historic District, as a result the building is designed to reflect the surrounding historical character. Some of these design elements include: brick masonry exterior walls, retail storefront streetscape scaled to reflect adjacent buildings, a cornice element at the third floor to represent the height of many of the adjacent structures, and street level canvas awnings that are used throughout the downtown area. While the exterior of the building is a reflection to the past, the interior will be designed with a very contemporary feel. The main entry lobby is a vaulted atrium space that connects all floors of the condominiums and has a four story, frameless glass curtainwall system that provides open views to the street and plaza beyond. The individual residential units, which range in size from 1,600 s.f. to 2,000 s.f., will include up-scale features such as: hardwood floors, stone countertops, high-end appliances, exterior balconies, and expansive wood frame windows. The top floor units facing Montezuma St. will also provide spiral staircases the lead to roof decks that will provide stunning views of the entire downtown area.
sA has presented these designs to the City of Prescott, Historical Preservation Committee and received the necessary approvals. Currently the owner group is reviewing projected costs and public interest with hopes that this development can begin construction in the summer of 2009.
