Marriott Residence Inn

Prescott, AZ

smithARCHITECTS (sA) began working with the Prescott Hotel Group (PHG) in 2005 to begin design work for this 69,240 s.f., 93 room hotel. The site is located on a dramatically sloped hillside that rises above Highway 69. sA worked closely with PHG and Marriott to modify the prototype hotel design as much as feasible to accommodate this severe slope. The slope was cut and terraced with interlocking masonry retaining walls which allowed the building to sit higher on the slope and take advantage of the expansive views. The building design is shaped in a “U” layout in order to create a courtyard and pool area that is sheltered from the prevailing southwestern breezes and the traffic noise generated by the highway. PHG expressed a desire to upgrade the interior finishes beyond the standard level. sA worked extensively with Marriott headquarters to implement some of their interior design concepts that included high end finishes and furnishings, such as; flat panel LCD televisions, granite countertops, pendant light fixtures, and solid wood furniture.
A.R. Mays Construction was the General Contractor, as well as a partner of PHG in the development of this hotel. sA, A.R. Mays, and PHG worked very closely throughout the construction of the facility. This collaboration provided a team that paid very close attention to every detail, and as a result, this beautiful hotel provides some of the finest lodging accommodations in Northern Arizona.
