Smith Architects Office Building

This 2,400 square foot, 2-story building is situated on a small, triangular shaped lot located within the Yale Professional Plaza. The ground floor of the building is a leasable suite, while the second floor accommodates the offices of Smith Architects. This building is a very unique office building within the City of Flagstaff. The building footprint matches the triangular shape of the property in order to maximize the available building area. The building was designed to achieve LEED Certification, and Smith Architects is currently working with the USGBC to complete this process. Some of the primary sustainable strategies that are incorporated into this building design include: SIP roof panels; thermally broken operable aluminum windows oriented to achieve passive daylighting, mountain views, and passive ventilation; a fully insulated concrete floor slab; exterior walls are insulated with wet-spray cellulose insulation made from recycled newspaper, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and a high efficiency dual stage furnace. This building is successful because it is a physical representation of Smith Architect’s dedication to developing creative design solutions within tight budgets, exploring the use of new materials and technologies, incorporating sustainable building strategies, and focusing attention to the finer details that create a piece of architecture.
* Awarded an "Advanced Level Sustainability Award for 2011" from the Coconino County Sustainable Building Program
